![]() ![]() Then there is Ariana Grande, who with her voice, unnaturally scales the highest and most euphoric peaks of the vocal register. First, there is that retro and cheesy saxophone loop, which thankfully manages to land on the side of jazzy playfulness and not on the side of bad taste (i.e. The individual parts that add up to the greater sum are truly quite odd. The spiritual successor to Crazy In Love and 1 Thing, Problem was by far the most exciting and weird mega pop hit of the year. ![]() That and the melody is lovely.ġ5) Problem – Ariana Grande feat. While there is still hope sparkling through, the self-depreciating statements (“the truth is ugly, well, I feel ugly too”), and weary relents (“Seeing double beats not seeing one of you”), secures the notion that Severed Cross Fingers is both an optimistic and pessimistic view of life and love. However, one cannot shake the feeling that Clark is at her most vulnerable here. As their succeeding albums garnered less attention, many (including the band themselves, for a while) wrote off Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. It also proved how fickle the Internet can be. With good reason too, that debut album was a stunning and game-changing piece of music that proved that for one to have success in the music industry, they did not have to associate with the music industry. With their debut album getting an illustrious 9/10 rating from Pitchfork back in 2005, interest in Clap Your Hands Say Yeah sky-rocketed. ![]()
